Guest Column: Traffic congestion is a serious safety hazard

Chronic traffic congestion is more than a motorist annoyance. It is a serious safety hazard.

A good example is the intersection of Industrial Way and Oregon Way. When car and truck traffic is at a standstill, access to businesses in this critical corridor is blocked for emergency vehicles.

As most of us have experienced, it doesn’t take much to bring this area to a grinding halt. Accidents and delays caused by trains can stall car and truck traffic, making it nearly impossible to respond in a timely way to fire and emergency medical/rescue incidents.
